2014

AR with Google glass

What

Augmented Reality (AR) is an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content. Google glass was the first AR device on market.

Why

We developed a solution for surgeons to view the real-time vitals of a patient while they’re operating so they don’t have to stop and ask another medical staff member or take their eyes off of their patient.

Result

At Montréal’s 2016 Hacking Health Hackathon, Osedea won the most innovative solution prize.

2015

React native

What

React native combines the best parts of native development with React. With a single codebase, one team can maintain multiple platforms and share a common technology.

Why

Before this new framework, developers had to spend more time understanding and writing coding languages. Learning this hybrid solution/platform (which was advertised to be as good performance and experience as native applications) allowed us to spend more time on creating better experiences for our end users.

Result

Osedea became the first React Native development firm in Montreal.

2016

Chatbots

What

Chatbots are computer programs designed to simulate conversation with human users, especially over the internet.

Why

With the release of the Facebook messenger SDK in 2016, new capabilities and interactions with end users became available; we adapted to learn these new technologies to better help our clients.

Result

Based on the learning, we delivered our first fully custom (not Facebook messenger) chatbot for Loto-Québec.

2017

Bluetooth indoor geolocation

What

Geolocation refers to the use of location technologies such as GPS to identify and track the whereabouts of connected electronic devices.

Why

This technology became standard on phones in 2017, but only for the outdoors. There existed no reliable solution for indoor situations.

Result

For the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), we explored a new solution with physical beacons to help users better experience the space.

2017

Terraform

What

Terraform is an open-source infrastructure as code (IaC) software tool that enables you to safely and predictably create, change, and improve infrastructure.

Why

To prevent stagnation of our development tools, and to adopt a more DevOps approach to infrastructure, we pushed to innovate with Terraform—creating internal modules, reference architectures and guides.

Result

With this new approach to building and developing IaC, we not only reduce development/setup time, but enable cost savings for our clients.

2018

NLP and IoT

What

The Internet of things (IoT) describes physical objects (or groups of objects) with sensors, processing ability, software, and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet or other communications networks. Natural language processing (NLP) refers to the branch of computer science—and more specifically, the branch of artificial intelligence (AI)—concerned with giving computers the ability to understand text and spoken words in much the same way human beings can.

Why

With the rise in popularity of IoT devices in our homes, Osedea focused on building our expertise to bring these experiences and new forms of delivery to our clients.

Result

Won the People's Choice Award at the Radio-Canada Hackathon (2018) / le Coup de cœur du public au Hackathon Radio-Canada (2018).

2021

Computer vision

What

Computer vision is a field of AI that trains computers to interpret and understand the visual world. Related to this field is object detection, a computer technology linked to both computer vision and image processing that deals with detecting instances of semantic objects of a certain class (such as humans, buildings, or cars) in digital images and videos. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a significant area of research in AI, pattern recognition, and computer vision.

Why

With computer vision rising in popularity and its potential to help make things more efficient, we looked into object detection and OCR to programmatically understand images and bring insight to our clients.

Result

With this expertise, Osedea has delivered various value adding insights for our clients.

What

In a nutshell, WebXR is an api on web browsers, that allows the XR hardware (such as headsets and mobiles devices) to work on websites through the use of WebGL.

Why

Leveraging our current expertise in web languages, we looked to develop virtual and augmented reality experiences (XR)

CDKtf

What

Cloud Development Kit for Terraform (CDKtf) allows you to use familiar programming languages to define and provision infrastructure. This gives you access to the entire Terraform ecosystem without needing to learn HashiCorp Configuration Language (HCL) and lets you leverage the power of your existing toolchain for testing, dependency management, etc.

Why

A natural progression to our adoption of Terraform, CDKtf is a now industry standard for infrastructure as code. Leveraging CDKtf allows us to forgo learning a new language (HCL) and more importantly allows us to build and develop infrastructure as an application (as opposed to a configuration). This approach is shared with how we build out full systems and thus allows us to leverage known concepts and patterns.

Result

With this new approach to building and developing infrastructure, we not only reduce development/setup time, but enable cost savings for our clients.
