Better coordinating aircraft maintenance with real-time visibility

The context

Our client, Avianor is a Quebec-based company specializing in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of commercial aircraft. The company is based in Mirabel. Every day, its teams coordinate several aircraft in the hangar at the same time. Each aircraft moves through dozens of work phases, from initial inspections to final checks, including engine installation and regulatory modifications.

The challenge

When an aircraft enters the hangar, several specialized teams work in parallel on hundreds of tasks. Following changes made to the operational system in 2024, managers no longer had access to a consolidated real-time view.

To understand the current status of an aircraft, they had to compile information manually from different sources. Avianor needed a tool that could centralize this information and provide a clear, real-time view of work progress.

The task at hand

We developed the Progress Status dashboard in Power BI, connected directly to Snowflake, the data platform already in place at Avianor. 

To support a scalable architecture, we designed a shared Gold layer that prevents data duplication across different projects. 

The dashboard brings together the main indicators for each aircraft undergoing maintenance: arrival and departure dates, number of days in the hangar, task completion percentage, inspection results, missing parts, and headcount. 

The solution also includes a detailed view of progress by major work phase, a visual aircraft diagram that helps teams quickly locate ongoing work, and a communication banner that displays operational alerts in real time. 

Deployed directly on screens throughout the hangars, the dashboard is accessible at a glance, without requiring users to open a computer.
