Welcome to another edition of our Osedea Portraits series, where we delve into the lives and minds of our incredible team members. Today, we are introducing Armand Brière, a senior developer and machine learning specialist whose expertise and innovative approach are shaping the future of AI at Osedea. Armand's dedication to optimizing AI infrastructure and his vision for the potential of artificial intelligence make him a key player in our journey towards technological advancement. Beyond his professional achievements, Armand's curiosity and passion for exploring new horizons, whether in technology or in the mysteries of space, paint a vivid picture of an inspiring individual.

In which specific areas do you think artificial intelligence could bring the greatest benefits in the near future?

The benefits of artificial intelligence in the near future are already evident in automatic code generation. GitHub Copilot, though a relatively new tool, significantly saves time every day. While code generation tools are still far from perfect, often producing errors and bugs, their expected improvements in the coming years will greatly assist developers.

What are the most complex technical challenges you have encountered while working on artificial intelligence projects, and how did you overcome them?

Optimizing the infrastructure costs of various AI models is a challenge I hold dear. On one of our projects, this was a key issue we addressed. The most expensive GPUs are not always the most cost-effective for running models as opposed to training them, so finding the right balance was crucial.

Do you think artificial intelligence has the potential to completely replace certain jobs, or will it rather lead to an evolution of existing roles?

I struggle to see artificial intelligence completely replacing certain jobs. As with any technological transition, some very specific jobs might be replaced, but generally, I view AI as a tool that enhances our efficiency. New jobs will emerge around these new technologies, and we should embrace these opportunities.

What are the tools or programming languages you find most effective for working in the field of AI, and why?

Undoubtedly, Python is the most important programming language today. The AI community predominantly uses it due to its simplicity. In terms of tools, I believe Hugging Face is now indispensable for the success of any AI project.

What is the application you can't live without?

Spotify. Music is an integral part of my day; it helps me stay focused and sets a rhythm for my thinking.

If you could live in a different era of human history, which one would you choose and why?

I would choose to live 1000 years in the future to see where humanity has progressed. Have we solved the climate crisis? How advanced is technology? Do we still need to work?

If you had the opportunity to take a trip to space, would you accept it? Why or why not?

Yes. I have always been fascinated by space, and I would not pass up the opportunity to float in the vacuum of space.
