Why Thomas chose Osedea: a developer’s real experience
At Osedea, we believe tech careers should be exciting, meaningful, and human. Thomas, a developer on our team, shares what drew him in: the people-first culture, the freedom to grow, and the space to innovate.
What surprised you the most when you joined Osedea?
What surprised me most was the energy and team dynamic. Every day is different—there’s always an innovative project to dive into, an idea to test out, or an engaging conversation, whether it’s about deep tech or just where to find the best coffee nearby. That variety is incredibly motivating.
How was your onboarding experience made easier, even with the move to a new country?
I felt supported right from the start. Everything is designed to make your arrival smooth, even when relocating internationally. The warm welcome from my colleagues, easy access to information, and the overall open-mindedness really made a difference.

How would you describe the work atmosphere at Osedea to someone who doesn’t know us?
Supportive, dynamic, and collaborative. There’s no traditional hierarchy, which encourages open communication and taking initiative. You feel free to propose ideas, make improvements, and build things together.
What do you particularly appreciate about our company culture?
Trust. And it’s not just lip service—it’s real. We’re treated like professionals, which gives us autonomy, confidence to take risks, and the feeling of being valued.
What everyday details, in your opinion, make a real difference?
Shared downtime, genuine care for one another, flexible work arrangements, and above all, active listening when it comes to individual needs.
How is Osedea different from other tech companies you’ve worked for?
The structure without formal hierarchy, the culture of accountability, and the genuine attention paid to people’s well-being. It’s not just about work here—it’s about growing in a space that truly cares for you.
What gets you out of bed in the morning to come to work here?
Honestly, the energy of the place. There’s always something new to learn or build. And the team is kind, enthusiastic, and inspiring. It makes you want to give your best.
In your opinion, what qualities are essential to thrive at Osedea?
Curiosity—to keep exploring new topics. Organization—because autonomy is key. And passion—for the craft, for doing things well, and for collaborating with others.
If you could hire your future teammate, what would you look for in them?
Humility, a strong skill set, curiosity, clear communication, and a positive attitude. Someone who helps move projects—and people—forward.
What aspects of life in Quebec did you enjoy right from the start, both at work and outside?
The space! Everything feels bigger here, which gives a real sense of freedom. And the people—helpful, friendly, non-judgmental. Life happens outside, no matter the weather. Snowing? Go out. Raining? Still go out. Sunny? Definitely go out!

What’s your favourite spot in Quebec to unwind after work?
There are many, but urban parks or quick getaways to the Laurentians strike the perfect balance between nature and recharging.
Which tech or approach excites you the most right now?
TDD (Test-Driven Development) and DDD (Domain-Driven Design). TDD makes you think before you code, and DDD helps align code with business realities. Together, they allow you to build useful, long-lasting products.
What’s your approach when starting a new project or learning a new stack?
Always keep a learner’s mindset. Ask questions, use available resources, and challenge your assumptions. That’s key to moving forward efficiently.
How do you stay up to date in such a fast-moving tech world?
By reading a lot, engaging with peers, and staying curious. The team and the ecosystem here really encourage continuous learning.
How does Osedea support your professional development?
Through a lot of freedom to experiment, access to training, and most importantly, a genuine openness to individual career paths. The support is personalized.
What inspires you about the future of technology?
The pace of change is fascinating—but also intimidating. The challenge is integrating the human element into tech, to create a world that’s fairer, more diverse, and truly meets our needs.
If you could learn a completely new tech or domain, what would it be?
Probably something related to cognitive science or the philosophy of technology. I’m really interested in understanding the human-tech connection on a deeper level.
If you could have dinner with any celebrity, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Steve Jobs—for his vision, his ability to anticipate people’s needs, and the way he merged design with technology. I’d also love to understand how he navigated life while facing illness.
What’s your wild dream outside of coding?
A trip around the world. Discovering the richness of cultures and landscapes is my biggest dream.
Where would you love to go one day?
Japan. My wife and I have been dreaming of it for years. The culture, the food, the aesthetics—everything draws us in. We really hope to make it happen soon.

What book, movie, or series has had the biggest impact on you lately?
Hard to pick, but I’m deeply affected by content that blends fiction with reflections on society or technology.
What’s your must-do ritual before starting the day?
A quiet moment, a coffee, and setting my priorities. It helps me get in the right mindset to be productive.
What’s something few people know about you?
I have a deep interest in psychology and how people function, which also shapes how I approach teamwork and coding.
