Neovox

Empowering dealerships to build lasting customer relationships
Automotive dealership professionals interacting with a customer, illustrating Neovox's focus on connected vehicles and customer relationships.

The context

Quebec-based Neovox is an upcoming connected vehicle ecosystem designed for automotive dealerships and vehicle owners. Powered by a smart tracking device discreetly concealed in the vehicle, with its own lithium battery, it combines real-time GPS tracking, instant theft alerts, geofencing, and cloud-based software.

The company's founders, a former dealership professional and a well-known entrepreneur in the automotive industry specializing in extended warranties and vehicle protection, witnessed many of the industry's everyday challenges firsthand. Information was scattered across multiple systems, while communication relied heavily on phone calls and emails, making day-to-day dealership operations unnecessarily difficult.

To solve these challenges, Neovox partnered with Osedea to design and develop two complementary applications: a mobile app that helps owners monitor their vehicles in real time, and a web platform that helps dealerships manage their fleet, communicate with customers, and support customer retention long after the car leaves the lot.

The challenge

Neovox came to us with an ambitious vision for the future of connected vehicles. From advanced anti-theft capabilities and insurance-related features to other innovative mobility experiences, the opportunity was exciting. But before we could begin building, we needed to determine which ideas would create the strongest foundation for the product. Our main challenge was to transform a broad set of ideas into a focused, buildable minimum viable product without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Early on, we knew it would be essential to identify the features that would deliver the greatest value in an initial release while leaving room for the platform to evolve over time. While this prioritization shaped the product from the start, we also continued validating ideas throughout development to ensure every feature aligned with Neovox's long-term vision and business goals.

One example was an additional layer of vehicle security that required both a driver's phone and a physical token before the vehicle could start. The functionality was fully implemented and ready for deployment, but as the project evolved, Neovox recognized that manufacturing the required hardware would significantly increase costs while also adding friction for vehicle owners. Together, we decided to remove the two-factor authentication feature and focus the initial release on the smart tracking device and the capabilities that would create the greatest value..

The task at hand

We began the project with a Discovery Phase to establish a clear product direction before development began. Although we were initially brought in to build the platform, it quickly became clear that shaping the user experience would be just as important as developing the technology. Our role naturally expanded to include UX strategy and design. Through user flow mapping and business analysis, we helped transform Neovox's ideas into an experience that made sense for both dealerships and vehicle owners.

With Neovox's branding already established, we created a scalable design system that brought consistency across the platform. We then designed both the mobile and web applications, ensuring each experience met the unique needs of its users while feeling like part of the same product ecosystem. Design and development progressed in parallel, allowing our team to keep momentum while refining the user experience. At the same time, three developers worked across the mobile application, dealership platform, and hardware integration, while we also designed a simple marketing website.

Because the solution relied on both custom software and connected hardware, it required close collaboration across multiple teams. A hardware partner developed the smart tracking device and we became the technical bridge between Neovox and the hardware team, translating complex technical discussions into practical decisions and serving as a trusted point of reference throughout development.

We were then responsible for integrating the Neovox device with the software platform and building the backend logic that interprets GPS and movement data. This included the alert system that notifies owners the moment their vehicle moves, as well as geofencing capabilities that determine when a vehicle is parked or leaves a designated area.

Because the hardware and software were being developed simultaneously, some device capabilities weren't yet available when our work began. Rather than waiting, we built simulations that allowed development to continue without slowing the project down. For example, we simulated vehicle trips by replaying predefined GPS routes, allowing us to test movement alerts and geofencing behavior long before the physical device was ready. We also recreated device responses to commands and alarm conditions that would have been difficult to reproduce consistently on a real vehicle. Once the hardware features became available, our simulations closely reflected real-world behavior, allowing us to validate functionality, reproduce issues, and identify bugs early.

To support reliable communication between the device and the platform, we built the backend on AWS and used Protocol Buffers (Protobuf) to enable lightweight, efficient data transmission over LTE. Compared to larger message formats like JSON, Protobuf’s compact payloads help reduce data usage, keeping LTE operating costs down while maintaining fast, reliable communication between vehicles and the platform.

The end result

After nearly a year of collaboration, Neovox now has a connected platform that helps dealerships build stronger customer relationships long after the initial purchase, while giving vehicle owners added peace of mind throughout the ownership journey.

When a customer purchases a vehicle equipped with Neovox, a smart tracking device is discreetly concealed inside it. Powered by its own lithium battery, the device stays connected to the mobile app in real time. As soon as the vehicle moves, the owner is alerted by text message and in-app notification, so they know right away if it is being stolen. If theft is detected, owners can activate live vehicle geolocation in the app. Custom geofences and alerts for device disconnection add further peace of mind, wherever owners are.

For dealerships, the browser-based platform provides a central hub for managing connected vehicles, maintaining customer information, and communicating with both customers and internal teams. The integrated messaging experience quickly became one of the client’s favourite features, giving dealerships a simple way to send service reminders, promotions, warranty offers, and other important updates from one place.

Beyond protection, the smart tracking device gives dealerships a direct, lasting link to each vehicle and its owner. Combined with GPS tracking and geofencing, this creates a strong foundation for more connected, data-driven services throughout the ownership journey.

What’s next

With the foundation now in place, Neovox is preparing for its next phase of growth. The platform is currently in its final stages of testing ahead of its first dealership deployment. From there, our partnership with Neovox will continue with the development of an internal management platform that gives the team greater visibility into connected devices, inventory, and dealership operations.

Looking further ahead, Neovox plans to build intelligent automations and CRM integrations on top of this foundation. Dealerships will be able to trigger service reminders, follow-ups, and extended warranty offers at exactly the right moment, and send other personalized communications to customers. Together, these enhancements have the potential to create an even more seamless experience for dealerships and vehicle owners alike.

This project reinforced something we see time and time again: the most impactful digital products don't try to solve every problem at once. They start with a focused vision, establish a strong foundation, and evolve alongside the people who use them. We're proud to have helped Neovox turn an ambitious idea into a scalable platform built for the future.
